硼砂和硼酸是火箭、破璃、醫(yī)藥等工業(yè)上的重要原料,在玻璃工業(yè)上用量尤大,在目前我國(guó)國(guó)產(chǎn)硼杪和硼酸的供應(yīng)還未十分充裕的時(shí)候,應(yīng)在大限度內(nèi)減少硼的進(jìn)口,并玻璃工業(yè)以外,其他工業(yè)用硼的需要。因此,進(jìn)行了改進(jìn)玻璃質(zhì)量的研究,要求在璃璃質(zhì)量、提高其化學(xué)穩(wěn)定性和耐熱度的前提下,盡量減低玻璃成份中硼的含量。

玻璃柱盡管有有易碎的缺點(diǎn)，但它具有化學(xué)惰性好，制備的柱子柱效高，便于觀察柱子情況，使用溫度范圍較寬等優(yōu)點(diǎn)，依然被廣泛使用。
